AVP - R&D - Auto Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing (15-25 yrs)
Job Description :
Key Purpose of the Job:
This position shall be responsible for developing strategies, goals and objectives for the R&D of Electricals, Electronics and Commercial Lighting business, that encompass innovative product development and standardization of the development process through advanced design, technology, tools and process improvements. To contribute to strategy thrust for the organization by developing new avenues for business.
KeyPerformanceAreas
- Direct and control research projects to ensure that they deliver timely and cost effective results which enhance the effectiveness of the BU and its products
- Collaborate with Business Development, Manufacturing and Quality teams for defining critical business issues and opportunities and analyzing internal competitive factors
- Develop test capabilities to support R&D and production test requirements
- Control and monitor the R&D budget to ensure that money is spent effectively and within prescribed limits
- Stay up-to-date with Technology and scientific literature and trends in global auto-component industry in order to understand and predict customers requirement
Key Functions & Responsibilities :
Research and Development:
- To be responsible for technology development and innovation of products, product standardization, VE/VA through design change, introduction of alternate material and process design & development.
- To conceptualize, architect and document the BUs product platforms, control equipment and next generation products in 2W, 4W and commercial lighting
- To lead and support the tool design and component design process
- To meet the marketing plan for new product development/ enhancement
- To benchmark with various OEMs to ensure product differentiation
- To enter into technical collaboration for ensuring achievement of design objectives, e.g. development of immobilizers with Magneti Marelli
- To regularly liaison with equipment suppliers and toolmakers to keep abreast of new developments identify ways to improve technologies
- To initiate Patents on any new product / technology development
- To ensure compliance with the OHSAS, ISO 14001, TS 16949 and any other regulatory norms that may be applicable
- To participate in exhibitions, seminars and industry forums to showcase Companys technical capability, and also to keep abreast of new technologies and products in the industry
Project Management:
- To be responsible for project management so to ensure that development and approval of projects are within the defined time frame as indicated in the development plan.
- To lead the team for designing the product/ improvement of existing product, developing prototype, running pilot batch and implementing process and production engineering
- To verify and validate designs that are produced by the team
- To conduct the production trial run and complete the PPAP approval process
- To manage Technology Transfer Projects on time and as per the budget and targeted production costs
- To facilitate transfer of newly developed products from R&D to production by closely monitoring the pilot phase
- To lead technical design reviews within the Product Development Team, to ensure documentation of test results
- To present R&D project updates, competitive intelligence and industry analysis to the ECM, BU CEO and the MD
- To manage all data, information and documentation generated within the R&D department
Customer Satisfaction:
- To liaison with Quality department to understand quality issues highlighted by the customer, and to work to improve Quality of product and process related to design
- To ensure timely responses to RFQs by conducting feasibility assessment and providing technical inputs to the Component development team
- To ensure timelines are adhered to for on- time development and Product approvals
- To ensure reduction in EFR and Warranty errors due to design issues
- To provide technical support to the customers in the 2W, 4W and commercial lighting segments to conceptualize new product design
- To ensure that the newly developed product meets the product specifications given by the customer and complies with regulatory requirement
Team Management:
- To carry out performance appraisals, assess capability, and training needs of team
- To ensure career planning for employees through guiding, coaching, mentoring and motivating them for achieving department objectives.
