Battery Electrical & Functional Safety Role - Auto (8-30 yrs)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive the functional safety tests for the batteries at to assure the absolute highest levels of safety for the occupants of the vehicle
- Ensure exhaustive test for every relevant aspect during the development process for the battery and the battery management system
- Drive the safety tests for all aspects
- Voltage and current running through the circuit elements are well within the tolerable limit of safety
- Thermal profile for the battery and circuit elements do not show any tendencies for run-off and hazard
- Drive the definition of the battery safety layout strategy as per the regulation of the market
- Oversee the tests for the electrical behavior of the battery, circuit elements, and its subsystems ensuring that the BMS handles current and voltage spikes appropriately
- Ensure that all the development activities are executed as per ISO 26262 for all ASIL levels
- Oversee the moderation of the failure mode and effect analysis, fault tree analysis, and hazard and risk analyses
- Support the vendors and suppliers in ensuring ISO 26262 for their components
- Oversee the tests for the electrical behavior of the battery, circuit elements, and its subsystems ensuring that the BMS handles current and voltage spikes appropriately

SKILLS:
- Proven strengths in electrochemistry and an expert knowledge of battery behavior and high voltage safety
- ISO 26262 experience required (license preferred)
- Experienced with setting up and designing components for battery abuse tests
- Technical knowhow of simulating known hazards under lab conditions
- Keen understanding of Battery Management Systems and their drawbacks
- Experience with automotive electronics systems development and launch at a large volume
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronics engg. or related fields
- Master's degree with exposure to lithium-ion preferred
- 10+ years experience in a relevant senior engineering position
BACKGROUND:
- Experience in automotive industry (exposure to Hybrid or BEV is a plus)
- Understanding of mechanical structures and cell chemistry is a plus
