Ceramic Engineer (3-4 yrs)
Job description:
- Ceramic engineers work in the ceramics and glass industry, which produces items like tableware and ceramic tiles for spacecraft. They work with a variety of materials, including clay, zirconia, glass, and composites. Their responsibilities include:
- Research: Researching new ceramic materials and techniques, and different methods for painting, forming, and firing clay and ceramic materials
- Design: Designing and developing ceramic components and products to meet customer needs and specifications, and designing machinery and tools for forming and firing ceramic materials
- Testing: Testing the heat resistance of materials, and analyzing test results to determine strength combinations of new products and materials
- Production: Managing the production process of ceramic products, including design, development, testing, and manufacturing. They also monitor production processes to ensure product consistency and quality, and maintain and update the production and testing equipment used in the manufacture of ceramic products
- Quality control: Developing and maintaining quality control standards for ceramic products
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting and resolving any problems with ceramic products
- Ceramic engineers need to have strong communication, management, and technical skills, and be knowledgeable about a variety of techniques, including sintering. They also need to understand the chemical properties of materials. Additional qualifications include a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, and work experience in a related industry.
