Position: Chemist (Quality Control Department)

Job Description
- Receive or collect (as appropriate) and prepare quality control samples for testing, ensuring that collection and/or preparation methods strictly comply with set procedures
- Perform chemical analysis of samples, by automated and/or bench testing methods, ensuring that testing procedures and methods are strictly followed
- Record test results, perform standard data analysis and record all data in specified log sheets or system according to set operating procedures.
- Report test results to the relevant Department, ensuring that results are clearly communicated within the required timescales, in order to inform production for decision making-
- Perform non-routine tests on special samples and/or competitor products as requested in order to inform and support production and commercial decision making
- Prepare standard chemical solutions for use in the testing of reference materials, ensuring that preparation methods and procedures are strictly followed, so that analytical results can be relied upon
- Cross check sample results, with the aid of reference samples, between analysts and/or test equipment according to set schedules and procedures in order to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of tests
- Carry out regular calibration of test equipment, ensuring that calibration schedules are met and results recorded in order to ensure ongoing test accuracy and reliability
- Carry out blind testing on calibrated test equipment, with the aid of reference samples, in order to ensure the reproducibility of analysis between all responsible analysts
- Carry out routine inspection, adjustment, checking and cleaning of test equipment in order to ensure ongoing test accuracy and reliability is maintained
- Carry out routine, on the job equipment maintenance and minor repair and identify and communicate other maintenance / repair needs to the Senior/Chief Chemist for onward communication to the Maintenance Department
- Report any instances of calibration results falling outside statistically acceptable limits so that appropriate corrective action is taken
- Ensure all operating, safety, environment and quality procedures are followed in order to ensure the highest standards of Quality Control operational integrity are achieved and maintained
- Demonstrate testing equipment and procedures to auditors, new employees and visitors in order to demonstrate competence to auditors and support effective skill and knowledge transfer of QC activities to others
- Communicate clearly with analysts on the next shift about current testing activity, equipment operation and conditions to ensure proper hand over or the shift with full and clear information
- Actively participate in QC Circle activities, Suggestion system and seek opportunities for improvement in QC test, equipment and processes in order to support the ongoing achievement of the highest operating standards
- Monitor the environment parameters as per the requirement of Local Environment protection authority.
QUALIFICATIONS, Experience & SKILLS
- Science graduate/Diploma in Chemical Engineering with 3-5 years relevant laboratory work experience
- Complete knowledge and understanding of test equipment, methods and procedures in own area
- Complete knowledge of operating and safety procedures and standards
- Competent to the requirement of ISO 17025 testing Laboratory
