Role Overview: The Chief Manager- Plant Operations holds a vital leadership position within the plant, reporting directly to the Plant Head. The primary responsibility is to oversee specific manufacturing departments and ensure the smooth operation of processes. The role requires a strong background in the automotive or Tier 1 component manufacturing industry, with expertise in various domains, including production, quality, and maintenance. The Chief Manager- Plant Operations will lead a large team of employees and will play a pivotal role in driving continuous improvement and fostering innovation within the plant.
- Create and implement best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance.
- Ensure that manufacturing strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market.
- Develop and manage master production schedule and operations budgets for products to directly support and ensure that the product is delivered to agreed cost, quality, and timelines.
- Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
- Take ownership of the manufacturing policy, guidelines, and any associated documentation.
- Develop & implement innovative manufacturing processes in respective mfg. unit.
- Work on utilizing plant capacity and efficiency to reduce the operative plant cost.
- Ensure minimum machine breakdown time and predictive maintenance of the machineries with the help of maintenance team.
- Provide strong leadership to the manufacturing departments, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
- Ensure the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to Quality, Productivity, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (QPCDSM).
- Plan and execute maintenance activity to ensure plant is kept safe and compliant.
- Drive improvements in reliability for key aspects of machinery by completing reliability studies and identifying the best planned maintenance strategy.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Provide design for manufacturing input at early stages in the new product development process, coordinating with and supporting the new product development team to implement new and revised designs and developing effective processes to ensure manufacturability of product while maintaining quality, safety and environmental standards and achieving cost targets.
- Encourage and support the incubation of new ideas and practices that can lead to process enhancements, cost savings, and improved product quality.
- Efficiently manage human and material resources to meet production targets and operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, KAM, SCM, etc to align efforts and achieve organizational objectives.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the Plant Head regarding departmental performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Must have:
- Engineering and manufacturing operations with technical knowledge of heat treatment /forging /surface finishing, electroplating
- Candidates from tier1 auto component manufacturing companies - this should be from engine component development companies not sheet metal manufacturing.
- Strong leadership quality and team management quality
- Total experience of candidate should include manufacturing operations, production, quality, maintenance and other aspects of plant
- Graduate engineer in mechanical, electrical, electronic, production, industrial, or automobile engineering.
- 16+ years of experience in automotive or Tier 1 component manufacturing.
- Expertise in heat treatment, forging, and surface finishing (including electroplating).
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Experience in manufacturing operations, production, quality assurance, maintenance, and plant management. Ideally in the early 40s.
