Consultant - Intellectual Property - Semiconductors (6-8 yrs)
The semiconductor IP consulting practice consults for senior attorneys from leading semiconductor companies as well as law firms working in the area of semiconductor related intellectual property (patents).
As a consultant with the semiconductor practice with our client, you will utilize your knowledge in semiconductor analog/digital design, systems design, semiconductor process technology, MEMS, etc., to analyze patents and patent portfolios of clients to provide strategic advice on patent infringement, patent portfolio strength and reverse engineering.
You will be expected to use your background in semiconductors to quickly understand inventions, research and determine evidence of use of those inventions in leading semiconductor products such as processors, memories, power management chips, SOC- s, MEMS and RF IC- s, etc.
This role provides an opportunity to apply strong technical skills in the semiconductor field to act as the technical consulting arm for legal and business engagements with high-stakes for a strong client base. The analysis you provide will support multi-million dollar licensing and litigation outcomes in the semiconductor sector.
Key responsibilities:
- In-depth involvement in the Semiconductor Service Line/Technology. Interact closely with senior attorneys at leading semiconductor companies to identify and understand projects and opportunities. Broad technical base/interest and ability to learn a wide range of technical areas within the semiconductor realm from a technology and market stand-point.
- Analyze semiconductor patents and patent portfolios to understand inventions, search and identify potential infringing semiconductor products or companies through reviewing IC/system datasheets, product manuals, whitepapers, technology demonstrations etc.
- Support reverse engineering of advanced semiconductor products through analyzing both (a) semiconductor device level data such as complex SEM and TEM images of semiconductor devices and material properties of key chip layers such as transistor gates, dielectrics and interconnects and (b) circuit level data including hierarchical circuit schematic data.
- Prepare evidence of use charts against infringing semiconductor products and present analysis of patents and infringement to clients.
- Monitor overall project operations and ensure their timely execution within budget. Lead & monitor the team's performance to ensure efficiency in process operations and meet individual & group targets and provide timely reports to management.
Requirements
- Capability to quickly understand complex/ cutting-edge inventions in semiconductors and systems, MEMS, flat panel displays, nano-devices, etc.
- Ability to glean knowledge of semiconductor products and their functions from product datasheets, whitepapers, product demonstrations etc.
- Effective communication and presentation skills. Efficient project management, administrative and organization skills. High proficiency in Common MS Office applications.
- Ability to cope with conflicting demands and prioritize tasks. Willingness to travel at short notice
- Experience in managing international clients will be an advantage.
- 5-8 years of professional experience in Semiconductor industry.
The applicant should hold a B.Tech/Dual Degree from IIT- s, NIT's & BIT- s, in Electronics/ ECE/ Electrical subjects.
