Design Engineer - R&D Projects (3-5 yrs)

Job location: Vadodara, Gujarat
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree Requirements: ME/M.Tech Mechanical/Mechatronics/Advanced Mechanical Engineering with focus in areas of FEM, FEA, Pressure Vessel Design, Material research studies
Design/development experience level: 3+ years minimum in above mentioned areas, prior experience in- Marine, Defense or Automobile industries preferred
Software/IT proficiency:
- Fully-trained and proficient in parametric software- Solidworks 2010+ (MUST),
- Fully-trained and proficient in 2D CAD applications-Draftsight and AutoCAD (2D and 3D) (MUST)
- Project Planning and coordination skills using MS Project or similar other tool (required)
- Ability to use Meshing tools - GAMBIT, ANSYS or other
- Knowledge of Fluent, MATLAB and Pro-Engineer may be useful
- Full capability to use MS Office 2007 and Office 365
- Ability to effectively use IT resources/internet to find, collect and organize applicable sources of information- engineering know-how, key-contacts, companies, vendors/suppliers, manufacturers, design codes, publications, scientific data, case-studies, study materials and any other information as deemed necessary for a project
Key Functions:
A. RESEARCH & DESIGN
- 3D CAD Design and Construction of parts, assemblies, mechanisms to integrate with more complex etectro-mechanical systems. Further, generation of detailed 2-D drawings as required.
- Read and interpret 2D/3D machine drawings, or correlate w/ actual parts, and generate parts/assemblies in 2D/3D to form part/whole of an eletro-mechanical system
- Design and development of Special fitments, systems and products for applications in Defense and Marine industry.
- Development of new Product Design - using various inputs- application requirements, parameters and specifications, governing standards from ISO, IS, IEC/Ec, MIL, NES, EN, EEDs etc, market feedback, client mandatory requirements
- Improve Existing Product Design - using Design Analysis and Optimization Methods
- Design of pressure vessels and conveying systems using regulatory norms & design codes- ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AD, ISO, DIN ISO, IS, IBR and other regulations
- Research and selection of various materials, mechanisms, technologies of construction based on defined application requirements, parameters or specifications.
- Preparation of Binding drawings, Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) for submissions to approval authorities
- Create and follow Stage Gate Process in Design/ R&D with inputs from Design team/superior, execute various stages/gates and send MIS reports tracing progress and self-assessment on regular basis
- Work in Coordination with Engineering/Design teams of collaborations, for execution and assistance with ToT (Technology transfers) and knowledge-gathering tasks. Using Design inputs and data acquired, execute product development tasks as directed to achieve time-bound project objectives
- Production and set-up of prototypes, for conducting factory trials for testing, Reverse engineering of equipment as deemed necessary
B. ADMINISTRATIVE & OTHERS:
- Ability to lead and manage small team of engineers and technician to accomplish project-related tasks, objectives and milestones in a timely manner
- Ability to work with in stipulated limits and constraints of time, resources and finances to meet budgetary goals set by requirements of each project
- Generation of BOMs, BOQs, cost estimation of parts/assembly, project-cost estimation, budgeting & forecasting
- Vendor interactions, visits and assessments to ascertain reliability & competence, raise techno-commercial inquiries to obtain quotations and estimates on project requirements
- Creation of machine sub-parts/assemblies from archived drawings (2D to 2D/3D)
- Regulation of Engineering change notices, design databases and task-assignment list
- Organization of Design data & CAD in archives/design vault/administrative tasks as required
- Positive attitude and cohesive approach with superiors, colleagues and subordinates using team-player skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, precisely and consistently through all possible mediums - verbally and in written format, with and without electronic media
Language skills:
- Able to read, understand, speak and draft complete correspondences in simple, technical and non-technical ENGLISH language.
- Able to communicate in regional languages- Gujarati/Hindi as and when required.
