Director - Battery Testing - Auto (10-30 yrs)
BATTERY TESTING DIRECTOR
ROLE:-
Lead the battery testing team to ensure that the products meet all the technical and legal specifications for safety and design
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Design and oversee the execution of detailed test methods of various battery module and pack systems for conducting characterization of battery behavior
- Own the scope, schedule, implementation and tracking of test projects and results
- Take ownership of battery abuse testing from setting up test facilities to defining & executing tests to failure analysis
- Direct and oversee the design of tests to understand failure modes and limits and design dependencies
- Ensure the support to the facility startup operations for commissioning and integration of battery test systems
- Oversee failure analysis activities during development and throughout production programs
- Drive the creation of test outlines and detailed methods including equipment, instrumentation, and test assets
- Ensure the automation of tests for application to battery packs where applicable
- Interface with battery engineering, reliability and material scientists to identify failure modes and create design validation test plans
- Ensure the commission of appropriately qualified battery electrical test equipment
SKILLS:
- Strong understanding about electrochemistry, thermal behavior of lithium-ion cells, and cell's components and their interactions inside the cell
- Keen understanding of battery behavior changes over temperature and age of the battery
- Experienced/licensed with ISO 26262
- Extensive experience on software systems used for testing battery platforms
- Experience with understanding and generating insights from data
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or other data analysis software
- Exceptional communication, people & leadership skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related fields
- Master's degree with exposure to lithium-ion is a plus
- 10+ years experience in a relevant senior engineering position
BACKGROUND:
- Experience with working on high voltage systems preferred
- Experience with EV is a plus
- Knowledge in thermal profiles of batteries and abuse testing is required
