Job Description ( JD ) : Domain Expert and Programme Management Leader for Automobiles Paint Shop

Position Title: Domain Expert and Programme Management Leader Paint Shop

Department: Product / Programme Management

Location: Bert Labs Pvt Ltd | 3rd Floor, 613/A, 15th Cross, 33rd Main, J. P. Nagar 1st Phase, Bengaluru, Ka.

Reports To: Founder, Executive Chairperson and CEO

Position Overview: The Domain Expert in the Automobile Paint Shop is responsible for overseeing the painting process for 4-wheelers (4W) and 2-wheelers (2W). This role requires in-depth knowledge of paint application techniques, paint shop equipment, and quality standards. The expert will ensure that all painting operations meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety while adhering to environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities as follows:

Process Management and Quality Assurance:

- Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of painting processes for 4W and 2W vehicles and maintain quality control systems to ensure the final finish meets or exceeds customer expectations.

- Ensure that all painting operations adhere to company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements and Monitor and control paint shop operations to achieve high levels of productivity and efficiency.

- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the paint shop to identify areas for improvement as per the Laboratory and Testing Certifications: NABL Accreditation (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories - India) and ISO/IEC 17025: Testing and Calibration Laboratories

Team Leadership and Equipment Management:

- Provide technical guidance and training to the paint shop team, ensuring that all staff are skilled in the latest painting techniques and safety procedures.

- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team and manage and mentor a team of painters, technicians, and support staff.

- Must have Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, Strong knowledge of paint chemistry, application techniques, and curing processes with automated paint systems and robotics.

- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of all paint shop equipment, including spray guns, robots, ovens, and conveyors, and Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency.

- Understanding and implementing the industry-specific Certifications: VDA 16 Coating Processes for Automobile Industry, AAMA 2605: Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements, and Test Procedures for Superior Performing Organic Coatings

Safety Compliance and Environmental Responsibility:

- Ensure that all paint shop operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Including Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Complying with OSHA and other safety regulations.

- Lead initiatives to reduce waste, emissions, and energy consumption within the paint shop Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices by adapting Supplier Certifications: PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning)

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.

- Extensive experience (14+ years) in automotive paint shop operations, with a focus on both 4W and 2W vehicles.

- Your involvement with any of these certification companies ISO Guidelines: ISO 16949: Automotive Quality Management System, ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001: Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 45001: Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

- Familiarity with Environmental and Safety Certifications: EPA Regulations (Environmental Protection Agency - U.S.), REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals - EU), and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) specific to paint shop operations.

Working Conditions and Preferred Skills:

- The role involves working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to paint fumes, noise, and heavy machinery with ASTM Standards: ASTM D3359: Standard Test Methods for Measuring Adhesion by Tape Test, ASTM D2794: Standard Test Method for Resistance of Organic Coatings to the Effects of Rapid Deformation (Impact), ASTM D610: Standard Practice for Evaluating Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces and ASTM D2244: Standard Practice for Calculation of Color Tolerances and Color Differences from Instrumentally Measured Color Coordinates

- May require worked in shifts and extended hours depending on production demands in Automotive Industry-Specific Standards: AIAG CQI-12: Coating System Assessment and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Standards

- Proficiency in using paint shop management software and other relevant tools.

- Knowledge of different types of paints, coatings, and their specific applications.

- Ability to analyze and interpret data to make informed decisions and know to adapt the Sustainability Certifications: Green Seal Certification and Energy Star Certification
