Function Safety Engineer - Instrumentation & Controls Engineer (18-30 yrs)
Experience: 8+ years in Upstream Oil & Gas / Downstream Refinery Units

Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in safety instrumented systems (SIS), functional safety, control system engineering, and risk assessments within the Oil & Gas industry. This role requires hands-on experience in HAZOP, SIL assessments, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and vendor coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Risk Management:
- Perform hazard and risk assessments, ensuring proper allocation of safety requirements to SIS.
- Participate in HAZOP reviews and SIL assessments in compliance with IEC 61508 & IEC 61511.
- Prepare and validate SIL assessment reports for various technologies such as Methanol, Hydrogen, Ammonia, and Renewable Fuels.
Instrumentation & Control System Management:
Install, commission, and maintain various control systems, including:
DCS & PLC Systems: Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell HC900 Safety PLC, Honeywell Safety Manager, ML-200 PLC, Rockwell Advance, Schneider Electric Foxboro DCS.
- Monitoring & Automation Systems: Meggitt VM600, Honeywell Enraf TFMS, Honeywell HUS & Maxpro CCTV, ACS, Simplex & ESSER FAP, and Terminal Automation Systems.
Machinery Control & Vibration Monitoring: Bentley Nevada Systems.
Process Engineering & Vendor Management:
- Collect and analyze instrument failure data to assess failure rates, availability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage instrumentation for key Oil & Gas equipment such as flare systems, cooling towers, centrifugal pumps, desalter units, fired heaters, compressors, custody metering skids, and burner management systems.
- Finalize vendor deliverables, review quotations, and develop technical questionnaires.
- Oversee engineering and fabrication of custody transfer metering skids and interface with vendors.
Technical & Engineering Responsibilities:
- Conduct HAZOP-LOPA reviews, define safety instrumented functions (SIFs), and perform IL-calculations.
- Develop and update Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
- Define testing requirements and intervals, ensuring maintenance procedures align with industry standards.
- Ensure instrumentation scope compliance and manage scope changes within projects.
- Optimize designs to improve reliability, availability, maintainability, and cost-efficiency.
- Provide guidance to junior engineers, ensuring adherence to HSE requirements.
- Represent the Instrumentation discipline in meetings, workshops, and technical reviews.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in Instrumentation & Controls within the Oil & Gas industry (Upstream/Downstream).
- Strong understanding of safety instrumented systems (SIS), risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance (IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
- Hands-on experience with DCS, PLC, ESD, FGS, vibration monitoring, and custody transfer metering systems.
- Expertise in vendor management, instrumentation engineering, and process optimization.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
- Proven ability to provide technical recommendations and resolve high-priority instrumentation issues.
Mandatory Certifications:
T- V Rheinland Certified Functional Safety Engineer (with at least 2 years of relevant experience post-certification).
