Job Title: Geotech Engineer - Underground Mining

Job Overview: The Geotech Engineer for Underground Mining will be responsible for evaluating and ensuring the stability and safety of underground mining operations. This role requires expertise in geotechnical analysis, ground support design, and risk assessment to mitigate geotechnical hazards and support mining activities. The engineer will collaborate with mining teams to develop and implement geotechnical solutions, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and optimizing mining efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Site Investigation and Monitoring:

- Conduct geotechnical site investigations, including core logging, sampling, and in-situ testing.

- Monitor ground conditions and deformation in underground mine workings using various instrumentation and techniques.

- Analyse geotechnical data to assess ground stability and predict potential hazards.

2. Design and Analysis:

- Design ground support systems, including rock bolts, shotcrete, and other reinforcement techniques.

- Perform geotechnical analysis using numerical modelling and simulation tools (e.g., FLAC, UDEC, Rocscience software).

- Develop and optimize mine layout and excavation sequences to minimize geotechnical risks.

3. Risk Assessment and Management:

- Conduct geotechnical risk assessments for underground mining operations.

- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate geotechnical hazards such as rockfalls, subsidence, and seismicity.

- Prepare and update ground control management plans.

4. Technical Documentation and Reporting:

- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, including findings, recommendations, and design documentation.

- Maintain accurate records of geotechnical investigations, monitoring data, and analysis results.

- Communicate geotechnical issues and solutions effectively to mine management and operational teams.

5. Collaboration and Support:

- Work closely with mining engineers, planners, and operations personnel to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine planning and operations.

- Provide technical support during mining activities, including troubleshooting and resolving geotechnical challenges.

- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to the development of safe work practices.

6. Compliance and Safety:

- Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical and mining safety regulations and standards.

- Participate in safety audits and inspections related to geotechnical aspects of the mine.

- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement in geotechnical practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.

- Minimum 02 - 04yrs of experience required in relevant field.

- Proven experience in geotechnical engineering within underground mining environments.

- Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools (e.g., FLAC, UDEC, Roc science suite).

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

- Ability to work in challenging underground conditions and adapt to dynamic work environments.

- Knowledge of relevant mining regulations and safety standards.
