Group Lead Simulation & Modelling - Chemical (4-20 yrs)
Job Purpose :
- To identify the long term needs of the organization in the area of Simulation & Modelling and provide world class simulation models to the manufacturing sites with the objective of troubleshooting current challenges as well as developing future ready capabilities of the site.
Job Accountabilities :
- Implement best in class solutions, benchmark internal systems, keep up to date with future developments in the world, and conceptualise unique solutions that keeps us ahead of the competition.
- Develop a Competent and Responsive team that excels in all activities of the group in an inclusive, ethical, and transparent manner respecting all the values and behaviours of the Reliance.
- Establish a good functional relationship with site Technical services, GMS technology teams ,Operation, R&D and Project execution teams and various other stake holders as required to cater their Simulation & modelling needs.
- Team working : Mentoring and Standardising to ensure knowledge continuity and transparency; recruiting and grooming the best industry talent in Simulation & Modelling area.
- Keep up to date with new technologies evolving which are relevant to Simulation area by interacting with external agencies &attending relevant conferences.
- Assist to optimize operating/new upcoming plants by developing steady state simulation models/ dynamic simulation models/ digital twin etc
- Any other activity which is not listed above but required to meet the RIL mission and Vision.
Planning and Scheduling Function :
1. LP sub-model review and corrections required
2. Kinetic model calibration and keeping the unit model updated.
3. Running LP utilities for LP sub-model generation.
4. Analyzing Retro analysis report released by EPS for
- Retro - Actual reasons for deviation, for crudes selected
- For secondary units replacing reported feed by actual feed properties and check the deviations.
- Suggest corrective actions if required.
5. Assisting EPS in Annual Plan generation activities.
6. Auditing, Training and assisting Site CTS in kinetic model and LP sub-model generation.
7. Running PIMS for economics of new work carried out by R&D.
8. To act as an interface between EPS-Mumbai, Business development group, R&D and COE-Jamnagar/Site CTS
Development Function :
1. Study the planning model for recurring constraints.
2. Relax the constraints to track objective function.
3. Develop PIO/MOCs for relaxing constraints.
4. Support in-house model building based on true kinetics and molecular species.
5. Integration on in-house developed Reactor models with platform like KBC, Aspen plus.
6. Extend the in-house developed models to other units. Explore the possibility to utilizing platform provided by UDEL to other reactor in Petrochemical domain.
7. Provide direction to R&D projects by doing economic analysis.
8. Improve/develop Refinery wide optimizer.
9. Incorporate / Develop new vectors based on operating variables like Unit Throughput for inclusion in unit sub-models for PIMS.
10. Performance monitoring and improvement Crude cutting activity by SPIRAL.
11. Incorporation of new properties of various cuts in Spiral based on R&D work to increase profitability
12. Evaluate new economic planning and decision making tools like Spiral planner ( PIMS counterpart)
13. Coordinate with FCA,EPS for exact product and intermediate transfer pricing to ensure proper economic evaluation.
Data Management :
- Ensure compliance with internal management systems
- Decide access-control for information to other users
Technology Management :
- Stay updated with the technological advancements and upgrade the simulation & modelling strategy accordingly
- Manage multiple third party engagements
- Manage interactions with institutes/agencies for specialized model development
HSE & Other Regulatory Compliance :
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE procedures/practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local environmental site, statutory regulations applicable.
Learning & mentoring :
- Good hold in various technological aspects
- Mastery in project execution & troubleshooting
- Mentoring all subordinates & team members to ensure knowledge continuity
- Identify learning needs of Simulation & Modelling team
Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills) :
- Thorough knowledge & proficiency in all areas under the ambit of Simulation & Modelling
- Strong influencing and stake-holder management skills
- Thorough in Chemical Engineering Fundamentals, Thermodynamics, Programming languages, simulation& optimization.
- Expertise in using at least two commercial simulators for Steady & Dynamic simulations in Oil & Gas, refinery, petrochemical, Polymer & energy industry.
- Advanced knowledge of Thermodynamics & fitting experimental data to thermodynamic models.
- Development of entire plant single as integrated model& use of the same for revamps & optimization.
- Experience in complex simulations like extractive /azeotropic/reactive distillation, Divided wall column simulation etc
- Experience in developing reactor models from first principles & linking the same with flowsheet.
- Awareness of Data models, hybrid models & simulations for renewable energy.
- People management skills, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
- Interaction with external related agencies, publications & presentations.
- Strong analytical skills, quick learning and with passion/ persistence to excel in Simulation & Modelling.
Key Attributes (Experience and Qualifications) :
Must : BE/B Tech in Chemical Engineering from a reputed institute
Preferred : Master or Doctorate degree, min 15 - 20 years of experience in Simulation & modelling, experience in CTS/Operations/Technology.
