Job Objective
To oversee Raw Material, Packaging Material and Plastic purchase and ensuring that all procurements are undertaken in accordance with the organisation's stated aims, objectives and strategies
To drive the hedging and backward integration strategies of Emami Ltd. to mitigate procurement risks and ensure raw material security
Primary responsibilities:
Strategic & Planning Responsibilities:
- Understands the Supply Chain priorities of the organization and provides inputs to support formulation of strategic sourcing & purchase strategy based on criticality of requirements, cost control norms and quality specifications
- Develops strategic plans for efficient procurement of material & process improvement and translates them into standard processes & systems to minimise cycle time & cost
- Supports Supply Chain Head in supply chain streamlining, optimal utilization of resources, improving process efficiencies and reducing the total cost of procurement
- Assumes overall responsibility for formulating vendor development plans factoring procurement and transportation costs to gain overall cost advantage in sourcing
- Formulates hedging and backward integration strategies to mitigate procurement risks and enhance cost efficiencies of procurement of high risk/ high value items
- Identifies areas of improvement in the supply chain and suggests methods for improving the order-to-dispatch supply chain efficiency and reduce gaps and delays
- Assists the Supply Chain Head in finalizing the purchase budget for all the RM/PM/Plastic items for all manufacturing facilities of Emami Ltd.
Functional Responsibilities :
- Establishes systems and processes for evaluation of suppliers and formulates guidelines and parameters to measure supplier effectiveness
- Develops procedures for obtaining quotations, communication of specifications based on user inputs and decisions on vendor selection for all purchase items
- Ensures adherence to standardised systems and processes to enhance operational efficiencies and reduce redundancies in Purchase
- Ensures development and maintenance of strong relationships with suppliers to secure lower negotiated prices, better service levels and mutually beneficial long lasting partnerships
- Identifies long term partners and facilitates long term tie ups with the vendors in order to increase profitability
- Develops and implements cost reduction plans through strategic sourcing, vendor development and optimal inbound logistics
- Establishes principles and guidelines to drive hedging and backward integration initiatives in the procurement function
- Prepares annual and monthly purchase plans and projections based on the purchase strategy.
- Forecasts possible crises & bottlenecks due to fluctuations in market demand & supply of raw materials etc and creates contingency plans for the same
- Ensures readiness to respond dynamically to changes in the production plans and accordingly modifies purchase plans
- Monitors timely supplies to manufacturing units in adherence with formulated supply schedules
- Negotiates competitive rates and freight charges with the vendors to minimise costs without compromising quality and timely availability of materials
- Coordinates with user departments regularly on issues related to materials specifications and quality deviations
- Executes supplier audits periodically and identifies deviations from Standard Operating Procedures for corrective action
Financial & Control Responsibilities
- Takes responsibility of improving profitability by identifying cost reduction opportunities through appropriate and timely information support and analysis
- Takes initiatives for cost reduction in sourcing and other related costs by new initiatives and standardising them
- Ensures the availability of information on key operational and cost parameters at every stage of the supply chain
People Responsibilities
- Drives a culture of performance amongst subordinates - Set goals, review and manage performance, guide and counsel and provide feedback on performance so as to ensure a motivated and committed team
- Develops the capabilities to take on higher responsibilities while performing the given / in-charge responsibilities at various levels within the department
- Ensures adequate training of departmental personnel to be able to handle market dynamics and meet the requirements of the channel partners
- Ensures effective career and succession planning for all positions in the department
- Takes overall responsibility for increasing ownership & empowerment within the department
Oversee any other assignment or special assignment based on business need as communicated from time to time by the Reporting Senior / Head of Function
