Job Purpose:

1. The incumbent will lead and manage the Concrete R&D vertical.

2. To develop new types of concrete, other building and civil engineering materials, to improve existing products, investigate the durability of concrete and the cement-admixture compatibility issues through R & D projects, in order to support Marketing, RMC, Birla White and BP Division for improved value propositions.

3. To benchmark performance and the durability of Cement in Concrete in terms of cement efficiency enabling measures for maintaining & enhancing concrete quality.

4. To develop new concrete mix design techniques, the Rheology of concrete and modelling concrete for meeting best design requirements of concrete structures.

Key Accountabilities:

1. To develop new products for different Business Verticals viz. RMC, Birla White & BPD by using our different types of cement.

2. To evaluate performance of cement of all UTCL units in concrete, benchmark with competitors, provide feedback to the cement plants in order to maintain leadership position in Concrete Quality.

3. To source or develop and use required software for modelling concrete mixes and their rheology in order optimize concrete properties and cost. To model concrete structures for designing required specifications.

4. To develop methods for and maximize use of artificial aggregates, C&D Waste in concrete at optimum cost.

5. To maximize the use of SCMs, at optimum cost

Qualification : Only PhD : Civil Engineering Materials/ Cement Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/Materials Science/ Physics/ Chemistry

Preferably : Knowledge of Modelling, Management

Skills Set required :

1. Essential: Concrete Mix Design, Rheology of Concrete, Durability of Concrete, Concrete Admixtures, Testing Concrete and Aggregates, Knowledge of Cement, Aggregates, Concrete and Cement standards.

2. Working in and Managing a Concrete Research Laboratory

3. Critical competencies: Development of new types of Concrete, Formulation of Concrete Mixes, Rheology of Concrete, Investigation and testing the Durability of Concrete, Knowledge of different types of cement, Knowledge of concrete admixtures and Aggregates, knowledge of standard for concrete, publications of scientific papers, presentation.
