Our client a leading paint manufacturing company is looking for a "HEAD - Research & Development" for Chennai location.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

- Strategy

- Responsible for developing and implementing an R&D strategy for the organization.

- Develop new products & processes in line with company goals and vision for the year.

- Provide strategic recommendations to the leadership team on the next set of products that would be launched in the market.

- Provide recommendations on demand, cost implications, pricing strategy, etc.

- Develop prominent product differentiator for the organization

- Building comprehensive and competitive product portfolio that provides required range of offerings.

- Work closely with management and HOD's to improve cost margins through various permutations & combinations.

Research & Development Operations:

- Identify necessary and relevant development needs through collaboration with internal resources and external influencers: industry and macro-trends, identified unmet market needs and requirements.

- Develop innovative products to help the organization to gain a competitive edge

- Conduct surveys and collect market data on current technologies, new product launches

- Oversee lab experiments for development of new products

- Meet new product development and testing SLAs as planned

- Maintain safety standards and norms in the laboratory

MIS & Documentation:

- Document and archive project details, results and conclusions

- Maintain confidentiality of formulations and Patent

- Ensure proper confidentiality and non-disclosure procedures and practices.

Financial Responsibilities

- Ensure new development costs are within the budgets

- Define cost standards and margins for different product lines

- Ensure optimum cost of goods sold in the product design

Organizational Responsibilities:

- Build a competitive edge in market through the combination or type or quality or price of the product

- Create the brand specialization

- Attend/Present/Represent Company at customer meetings, industry events, trade-shows, etc., as necessary.

People-related Responsibilities:

- Build a competent team

- Train & manage the team through regular reviews and feedback

- Ensure team retention & engagement to the organization

- Identify resource needs (people, equipment, etc.) and work to effectively add same within budgetary means.

Skills & Experience Required:

- Masters in Chemical Engineering.

- Minimum of 20 years Research experience in the Paints industry.

- Knowledge of standards and specifications related to this industry

- Good knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment related to the decorative paints industry Experienced in participating and conducting various quality audits.
