Summary Description :
- The Health & Safety Manager shall advise on implementation of operational policies, procedures and processes that facilitate deliver, enhance productivity, and lead operations of safety through implementation of management plans, guidelines and regulations. Ensure all policies, standards and procedures are adequately communicated to ensure compliance through inspections, audits, reports, regular meetings and statistics/trend analysis.

- Strong capacity to focus on identifying risks and implications.
- Well-developed communication skills to be able to put across complex concepts and data in a way that is readily understood and actionable using a variety of media.

- Skillful in distilling knowledge and building skills in others. Capacity to be pragmatic and practical in the way that technical issues are addressed.
- Experience in stakeholder management.
Role and Responsibilities :
- Manage the H&S scheme in accordance with the H&S requirements and standards.
- Demonstrate H&S leadership, manages H&S risk, communicates H&S information, promotes H&S practices, behaviours and attitudes and continually improves H&S performance.
- Implement and maintain the approved H&S scheme and H&S management system (ISO 18001) in all respects to ensure risks to third parties/contractors/stakeholders are understood and controlled.
- Provide advice on interpretation and application of the H&S management system. This to include provision of relevant training, briefings and information.
- Support the programme audits of the H&S management system and ensure follow up and close out of actions where required.
- Provide credible expert representation in industry forums and external bodies.
- Co-ordinate and collate information required for the timely production of scheduled H&S reports and identify trends and early warnings of possible issues and recommend appropriate action.
- Carry out high quality and systematic audits enabling the degree of compliance to be established and mprovement opportunities identified.
- Participate and envision H&S initiatives in order to promote continuous improvement of work standards and communication of best in class practices.
- Contribute and monitor accident investigations, ensuring the comprehensive gathering of supporting evidence material.
- Oversee and advise senior management on the implementation of Contractor's Safety Scheme.
- Champion safety to change job-site safety awareness and drive for a positive culture.
- Manage and supervise all safety engineers and officers, including Sub-Contractor's H&S staff.
- Follow up with all insurance related issues and accident reporting.
- Set safety goals, such as man hours worked without a lost time accident, and implement a safety incentive program to motivate safe behaviour.
- Establish punitive measures and fines for non-compliance.
- Ensure training is being carried out to supplement the required internationally recognised industry certifications.
- Organise the monthly safety leadership team meetings with Contractor's Project Manager.
- Inspect the Project daily, and record all visible safety hazards, including identification of violators.
- Follow through on timely correction of safety hazards, and / or making immediate corrections as necessary.
- Monitor tool box safety meetings and report same on the Contractor's Daily Report.
- Foster - Safety Awareness- in all tradesmen and supervisors on the Project.
- Ensure all areas are checked at least once a day for housekeeping and clean-up. Take immediate action to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Prepare and communicate job hazard analysis for each major phase or element of work prior to start of the task.
- Produce and develop H&S related plans / documents in line with project requirements.
- Review and comment / approve on suitability of sub-Contractor H&S documentation.
- Ensure adequate safety signage is prominently displayed where required.
- Ensure employee indoctrination for all new personnel.
- Ensure training is carried out for specific tasks, especially work of a - non-standard- nature.
- Foster a healthy & professional relationship with other H&S practitioners associated with the project.
- Drive senior management involvement with SHELT meetings and any other H&S initiatives.
- Lead by example and proactively participate in weekly site tours with senior management / others.
Essential Requirements :
Working knowledge of BIM in the design and construction process.
Qualifications :
- Internationally recognised Degree, Diploma or equivalent
- 10-15 years- experience on large construction projects or similar role
- Membership to an appropriate professional body.
- Excellent managerial and administrative skills possessing the ability to develop positive working relationships.
- Excellent organisation skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate internally and externally.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills.
- Knowledge of essential PC and standard applications software.
