Industrial Designer - Design Outfit Firm (6-10 yrs)
Industrial Designer
- A leading design outfit needs the a candidate with the required experience
- As part of our mandate to create empathetic and innovative products and services, Industrial Designers conceptualize solutions at the intersection of user needs, design, engineering & technology. Building on the insights & opportunities that emerge from primary user research, the Industrial Designer owns the conceptualization and design of product (tangible) experiences.
- This includes collaborating with colleagues and contributing to the design research process, identifying opportunities for tangible experiences that solve user needs, designing and prototyping these products / experiences, and effectively transitioning the detailed design into engineering / manufacturing &development.
Key responsibilities :
- Understanding the business requirements and context for innovation, Working with internal and external stakeholders to take inputs and align their perspectives around the framing of the project objectives and approach
- Participating in user interviews and any other interactions with users during research, including creating quick mock-ups or user scenarios to illustrate initial, sacrificial concepts
- Conducting in-depth analysis and reviews of competitive / comparative products in the market, to evaluate the functionality / design / engineering challenges and practices that could inspire new opportunities & solutions
- Participating in the synthesis process with other designers & design researchers, to arrive at consumer insights, needs & opportunities
- Ensure insights & opportunities are translated effectively into functionally & emotionally engaging products or tangible experiences
- Conceptualizing - function and form- level design systems & specifications that could help apply the design principles to a large portfolio of products and tangible experiences
- Creating rapid, low-fidelity and high-fidelity physical prototypes, and thinking through the engineering / manufacturing / regulatory / production challenges and feasibility
- Participating in user feedback sessions, working closely with the design researcher, and using the feedback to refine the user experience of the product design
- Working closely with stakeholders in production / manufacturing / engineering to take the detailed design forward, towards bringing the solutions to market

- Sketches, 2D and 3D visualizations & renders
- Low-fidelity prototypes
- High-fidelity, functional / experiential prototypes
- Detailed product design guidelines & specifications
- Detailed manufacturing / production inputs & specifications
