Lead - Vendor Development Engineer - Machinery Manufactuing (3-10 yrs)
Role Overview:
- As a Vendor Development Engineer, responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing suppliers to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and timely procurement of raw materials, components, and assemblies.
- The role involves supplier assessment, negotiations, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vendor Identification & Onboarding:
- Source and qualify new Vendors for raw materials, Machined components, castings, sheet metal, and fabricated parts.
- Conduct audits and capability assessments of potential suppliers.
- Cost Optimization & Negotiation:
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and contracts to achieve cost reduction.
- Analyze Vendor quotations and optimize Procurement costs.
- Supplier Performance Management:
- Monitor Vendor KPIs (quality, delivery time, cost, service levels).
- Implement corrective actions for underperforming Vendors.
- Technical Evaluation & Process Improvement:
- Work with design & production teams to improve supplier manufacturing processes.
- Identify and implement cost-effective manufacturing techniques.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: 3+ Years in Vendor Development, Procurement, or Supply Chain in Machinery, Heavy equipment, Manufacturing.
- Skills:
- Strong negotiation & Vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of Machining, fabrication, casting, and sheet metal processes.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/SAP for procurement.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Generate Raw material list as per the BOM.
- Estimation and Costing of mechanical components for new components.
- Get the competitive Quotes from Vendor and finalize the price.
- Generates PO's for all sc items/and DCs.
- Ensure the on time delivery and quality.
- Reduce the sc cost-target minimum 5-10% for Existing components.
- Develop alternative Vendor for critical components (single source).
- Assess and audit the Vendor periodically and monitor the performance (Quality and delivery).
- Monitor Vendor raw material stock and update weekly.
- Co-ordinate QC for inspection. Stores/Accounts for Supplier payments.
- Update the project wise status daily basis to operations team.
- Should know manufacturing process, Machining like turning, milling, drilling etc cost estimation to cross check the process cost to validate the Vendor quotes.
- Should have good communications skills.
