Manager - Consumer Research & Design (4-12 yrs)
The Context / Purpose of the Job:
Research & Strategy: To develop new product/services/ solution it is imperative to understand consumers- need in depth, translate and list down parameters which are critical to design. Understanding consumers- need requires unique skill of observation, empathy and simultaneously right connect and ability for assessment of the opportunity size, scanning the market for any available solution. This involves intense research both qualitative and quantitative which help in generating business insights, formulation of strategies, thereby develop scalable business ideas.
Design & Product Development: Translation of consumer need to meaningful design with engineering possibilities is an important step to product development. This is a critical interface to understanding consumer need and product engineering for a cohesive act.
Key Objective / Overall Job Responsibility :
Research & Strategy:
Identify new business / product opportunities through ethnographic research + analysis + strategic thinking.
Work with Sales and Marketing, Design and Product development [internal and external] to provide guidelines, as well as evaluation and feedback as needed.
Create strategic roadmaps based on research outputs
Evolve product specific features and characteristics.
Post-product-development in-field testing and evaluation with prospective consumers.
Develop knowledge platforms and capability on different techniques and methods
Design & Development:
Identify new business / product opportunities through ethnographic research and assist team in analysis and strategic thinking
Conduct In context observation with consumers to generate research along with other relevant stakeholders
Scout and scan for work done in relevant areas for analysis and synthesis
Post-product-development in-field testing and evaluation with prospective consumers.
Preparation and maintenance of the research database which includes photographs, videos, notes, analysis / evaluation of internal and external product ideas.
Skills and Capabilities:
Product and market segment knowledge, commercial acumen - since it is not possible for everyone to have knowledge about every industry, demonstrable knowledge from their industry / last position will suffice.
Communication skills, Interpersonal effectiveness, Drive for results, Networking skills.
Human-centric thinking.
Analytical Skills
Relevant Experience: 4-12 Years
Demonstrable knowledge of research and strategy processes.
Demonstrable knowledge of Human Factors and Ergonomics.
Demonstrable knowledge of Design, Product Development and Manufacturing processes.
Education Qualification: Any graduate (B.E / B-Tech / B. Arch / B. Des) preferably with Master level or PG degree in design / Industrial design / Consumer Research & Strategy
