Position Overview :
- The Purchase Manager in the is responsible for overseeing and managing the sourcing and procurement of raw materials, ingredients, and packaging components essential to personal care product manufacturing. This role focuses on building supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maintaining quality and compliance standards.
- The ideal candidate has strong negotiation skills, a background in personal care procurement, and knowledge of sourcing sustainable and innovative materials.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management :
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to meet production requirements while ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers, ensuring consistent supply and favorable terms.
- Identify new suppliers, including those offering sustainable and clean ingredients, to align with brand values and market trends.
Contract Negotiation & Vendor Agreements:
- Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure the best pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
- Establish long-term partnerships with key suppliers to support growth and enhance supply chain reliability.
- Manage vendor agreements and monitor adherence to contract terms, addressing any discrepancies in performance or cost.
Inventory & Cost Management:
- Collaborate with production and inventory teams to forecast material needs and ensure adequate stock levels without overstocking.
- Track and control procurement budgets, managing costs to align with financial targets and cost-saving goals.
- Implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover, reduce waste, and manage excess or obsolete materials.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure all procured materials meet the quality standards and regulatory requirements specific to personal care products (e.g., FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation).
- Work closely with the quality assurance team to verify supplier compliance, conduct audits, and address quality issues promptly.
- Maintain thorough documentation of supplier certifications, product specifications, and safety data for regulatory compliance.
Sustainability & Innovation in Procurement:
- Source eco-friendly and sustainable packaging and ingredients, contributing to the company's sustainability initiatives and brand ethos.
- Stay informed on industry advancements and emerging suppliers offering innovative materials, especially in clean beauty and sustainable packaging.
- Partner with R&D to explore alternative ingredients or packaging that could enhance the product's appeal and reduce environmental impact.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work with R&D, production, and marketing teams to align purchasing decisions with product development and marketing strategies.
- Communicate regularly with manufacturing and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and components.
- Support the NPD process by ensuring that raw materials and packaging are available on time for new product launches.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Analyze procurement data to identify trends, track KPIs, and make data-driven decisions to improve sourcing efficiency.
- Generate regular reports on purchasing activities, supplier performance, and cost savings for senior management review.
- Use insights from procurement data to suggest improvements in sourcing strategies and supply chain processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain, such as CPSM, is a plus).
- 5+ years of experience in procurement or purchasing, ideally within the personal care, cosmetics, or beauty industry.
- Strong knowledge of personal care ingredients, packaging materials, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation).
- Excellent negotiation skills, with experience managing supplier relationships and contracts.
- Proficiency in ERP or procurement software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach to managing budgets, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
