Mechanical Head - R&D HVAC (15-20 yrs)
We have requirement for the role of Business Unit-Mechanical Head (R&D)with a leading HVAC Product based Company, Pune.
Reporting to: Vice President /Director
Location: Pune
Job Responsibilities:
- Continuously understand the evolving future needs of the Global Product Business Units. Participate in and influence Global Product Business Units technical roadmap creation. Find ways to create, grow and sustain a strategic relationship with the Global Product Business Units;
- Be fully aware of the markets that the Global Product Business Units work in from a technology/products perspective. Understand the competitive space and be able to present an opinion;
- Articulate a strategy to grow that is a win-win at every opportunity team proposals, project proposals, conferences, meetings. Get buy in;
- Translate needs into solutions that are common while addressing specifics. Facilitate modularized solutions;
- Create the right engineering infrastructure e.g., prototyping, testing, training, tools that integrates the team globally;
- Actively promote the development of IP from India based team. Patents, Research Disclosures, Trade Secrets, publishing of white papers or Research articles of interest would be an expectation from this team;
- Enable collaboration and cooperation between various Global Product Business Units teams present at the Center in formal and informal ways e.g., design reviews, brainstorming, off sites, goal setting etc.
- Hire the right talent for next level leadership as well as at the engineering levels. Grow talent from within by way of stretch assignments, coaching, training, High pot assessments, job rotation, onsite visits and stays. Make touch calls as and when needed. Keep attrition within reasonable levels while looking for opportunities to talent upgrade;
- Motivate the team to go beyond what is expected. Paint a picture of the future that is aspirational and find themes to gather critical mass;
- Be a supervisor for the ME leadership team. Conduct goal setting in line with organizational goals and do periodic assessments and appraisal;
- Manage timelines, risk, priorities and budget for selected projects;
- Evolve appropriate metrics for the ME team. Measure and continuously improve. Be able to provide a linkage between technical/operational activities and business needs;
- Partner with external resources such as universities, consultants as needed to close competency and/or infrastructure gaps;
- Manage day to day operations of the ME team through next level leaders. Manage assigned budget.
Job Qualifications :
- Must have 15+ years of experience at multinational OEMs with responsibility for designing, developing and launching products out of which at least 8 at a supervisory level. Previous work should have significant breadth and depth in Mechanical and or Mechanical with Electronics/Software discipline;
- Must have managed a 100+ member engineering team. Must have worked in a matrixed environment where engineering team may have dual reporting responsibilities. Demonstrated capability to lead a team of high quality engineers;
- Demonstrated ability to create talent from within and bring talent from the outside;
- Demonstrated ability to create a competitive and compelling value proposition for doing engineering work out of India. Must have grown contribution out of India significantly in previous jobs;
- Hands on familiarity with engineering best practices globally for e.g., Simulation, CAD, FMEAs, NPD, VA VE, Design Reviews, Manufacturing Reviews;
- Hands on familiarity with project management best practices e.g., Timeline Management, Resource allocation, Risk mitigation & Escalation, Gate Reviews;
- Managed a departmental budget including forecasting, departmental expense approvals;
- Demonstrated ability to influence opinion and create actions to the benefit of the organization;
- Preferable to have spent 5+ years outside India (preferably US) doing Engineering work (not including education) for a multinational OEM;
- Preferable to be credited with IP Patents, Research Disclosures, Trade Secrets in the course of doing Research work;
- Preferable to have published Journal, Conference, White papers or Research articles of interest in the course of doing Research work.
Educational and other Qualifications :
- A Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from a Tier 1/Tier 2 college is a minimum. A Masters in Engineering or Business from a Tier 1 or accredited international school is an added advantage;
- Sound familiarity with using Design, Simulation and Analysis tools such as FEA/CFD, CAD, Statistical tools;
- Certification in DFSS, DOEs, Robust Optimization, Root Cause Analysis, LEAN, and Situational Leadership is an advantage.
