Metallurgy Engineer (3-8 yrs)

Process Development and Optimization:

- Develop, design, and optimize metallurgical processes for the production and refinement of non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, silver, and their alloys.

- Oversee processes like smelting, casting, rolling, extrusion, forging, and heat treatment to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.

- Conduct experiments and process simulations to analyze metal behavior under various conditions and optimize manufacturing techniques.

Material Selection and Alloy Design:

- Assist in selecting the right metals and alloys for different applications, considering mechanical properties, durability, and performance requirements.

- Lead the development and testing of new alloys to meet specific product or performance goals (e.g., corrosion resistance, strength, conductivity).

- Work with R&D to innovate and develop new metal products tailored to emerging market needs.

Quality Control and Assurance:

- Ensure all metal products meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.

- Develop and implement robust quality control procedures, including regular testing of metals for composition, strength, and other properties.

- Troubleshoot issues with quality deviations and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

Failure Analysis and Process Improvement:

- Investigate the root causes of product failures or defects and recommend solutions to prevent recurrence.

- Monitor and analyze material performance during production to identify opportunities for process improvement.

- Implement cost-effective measures to improve material yield and reduce waste.

Technical Support and Collaboration:

- Provide technical support to production teams to troubleshoot process and material issues.

- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, chemical, electrical) to address design and production challenges.

- Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure the availability of high-quality raw materials and maintain smooth production schedules.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

- Ensure that all metallurgical processes adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and best practices.

- Promote a culture of safety, ensuring all team members are properly trained in handling materials and machinery.

- Investigate and resolve safety issues related to metal production and ensure that workplace risks are minimized.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

- Use data analysis tools to monitor production metrics and identify trends or areas for improvement.

- Prepare detailed reports on material performance, process efficiency, and quality assessments for management review.

- Present findings and technical recommendations to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

Research and Development:

- Participate in ongoing research to develop new methods of processing non-ferrous metals more efficiently.

- Stay up to date with the latest developments in the non-ferrous metals industry and adopt new technologies to maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications:

Education:

- A Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

- A Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science is a plus.

Experience:

- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the non-ferrous metals industry, preferably in roles such as process engineering, metallurgy, or production.

- Strong experience in working with non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, silver, zinc, and their alloys.

- Knowledge of casting, forging, extrusion, rolling, and heat treatment processes for non-ferrous metals.

- Experience with process simulation and modeling tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar software) is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

- Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of non-ferrous metallurgy, including material properties, testing, and process control.

- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve metallurgical and production-related issues.

- Attention to Detail: Ability to perform detailed analysis and maintain accuracy in process monitoring and quality control.

- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to report findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

- Leadership: Ability to lead teams and work in collaboration with other departments to meet production goals.

- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with metallurgical modeling and simulation software is a plus.

Certifications (Preferred):

- Certifications related to metallurgy, quality control, or safety (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or equivalent) are a plus.

- Work Environment and Conditions

- The role may require time in both office and production environments.

- Will require adherence to strict safety protocols, including wearing appropriate protective equipment in the plant.

- Travel to other company sites or suppliers may be required from time to time.
