Optical Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Engineer with specialized experience in designing, developing, and implementing telescope systems. In this role, you will be responsible for creating innovative optical solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of our telescope products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optical design, simulation, and testing, combined with hands-on experience in the development of advanced telescope systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; a Master's or PhD is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in optical simulation and design software like Zemax, Code V, ASAP.
- Strong understanding of optical fabrication, alignment, and testing techniques.
- Experience with system integration and multidisciplinary project collaboration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical
information clearly to various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Optical Design & Analysis:
- Develop and optimize optical systems for telescopes using industry- standard software.
- Conduct simulations and analyses to predict system performance, and iterate designs based on findings.
- System Integration:
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to integrate optical components into the overall telescope system.
- Ensure that all components meet specifications and perform reliably under various conditions.
- Prototyping & Testing:
- Lead the prototyping, alignment, and testing of optical assemblies.
- Design and execute test plans to evaluate system performance and validate design improvements.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design reports, test procedures, and user manuals.
- Present design concepts and test results to internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Project Management:
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and coordination to ensure timely delivery of high-quality optical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Research & Development:
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in optical engineering and telescope system design.
- Propose innovative ideas for new optical solutions and improvements to existing systems.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with astrophysical instrumentation and astronomical observation requirements.
- Experience with optical coating, stray light analysis, and thermal management in optical systems.
- Proven track record of managing complex projects from concept through to completion.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements related to optical systems.
