PLC Technician - Construction (4-8 yrs)

Job Title: PLC Technician

Location : Guyana, South America.

Preferred Industry : Construction (Concrete Products Manufacturing Plants)

- Summary :

Responsible for the operation of the plant and the production of concrete hollow blocks, vent blocks, stone pavers and kerb stone to the operating capacity of the plant. Responsible for the operation, programming, re-programming, testing, trouble shooting and correcting problems with the plant's Siemens and Vacon control systems. Responsible for the product quality control and continuous improvement. Responsible for planned maintenance and repairs to the plant's mechanical functions in collaboration with mechanical engineering and electrical/electronic personnel.

Basic Duties :

1. Prepare plant for operations at the beginning of the shift and perform shut down procedures at the end of the shift.

2. Ensure product quality is maintained to required standards and curing process is adequately executed to ensure quality of the finished product.

3. Efficiently operate PLC computer controlled batching system that transfers aggregates from storage bins through weighing scales and into mixers.

4. Installing, maintaining, and repairing PLC control systems to regulate the flow of materials or process operations such as machinery, computer networks, and heating and cooling systems

5. Reading and interpreting control panels to control mix design and to set appropriate slump and ensure the efficient working condition of the plant.

6. Ensure that all assigned equipment are properly maintained, clean, in safe working order and operated properly.

7. Troubleshoot mechanical problems and perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the Operations Director.

8. Direct the operation of loaders and forklifts.

9. May perform other related duties.

Authority : Supervisory authority over other workers in the plant and factory

Educational Qualification :

- Associate's degree in related field

- 4+ years- experience as a PLC Technician

- Experience working with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and GE PLCs

- Familiarity with HMI programming

- Certification from the International Society of Automation

- (ISA)Degree in electronics, computer science or a related field

- Completion of an accredited PLC Technician program

- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints

- Working knowledge of hand tools, multi-meters, and other test equipment

- Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

- Strong commitment to safety in the workplace

- Able to use, repair and maintain machines and tools.

Technical Competencies : 

- The ability to troubleshoot and identify problems is an important skill for a PLC technician. They use their technical skills to identify the source of an issue, find a solution and implement the solution. They also use their technical skills to identify and repair electrical and mechanical issues.

- Behavioral Competency :

- PLCs are complex systems that require troubleshooting and problem solving skills to identify and resolve issues. As a PLC technician, you may be required to identify the source of a problem and develop a solution to repair or replace faulty equipment. You may also be required to troubleshoot issues with electrical systems, software and other components that may be affected by a PLC malfunction.
