Principal Engineer - R&D - Engine Controls (6-8 yrs)
Short Description
A - Principal Engineer - R&D- working in the domain of engine controls, is expected to build technologies which leave a mark on how engine power-trains are thought of world-wide. S/he is expected build technology differentiators and work with a cross functional team to execute such ideas. S/he is expected to lead a team of engineers working on such differentiators, and also engage with SEDEMAC's customers for technology/new-product demonstrations.
Job Description :
- The candidate will primarily work on creating technology differentiators in the field of engine controls. The candidate would also lead engagement with SEDEMAC's customers for engine controls related technology & product demonstrations, of yet-to-be-launched technologies & products. The candidate will primarily work on creating technology differentiators in the field of engine controls. The candidate would also lead engagement with SEDEMAC's customers for engine controls related technology & product demonstrations, of yet-to-be-launched technologies & products.
The candidate will be required to :
- Develop first principle understanding of physics behind the systems in a typical engine power-train; examples of system being carburettor, fuel injectors, intake manifolds etc.
- Mathematically model the system; design and conduct experiments to validate the hypothesized mathematical model.
- Develop "methods" or "strategies" to control / observe the system for desirable behaviour / insights. Examples being strategies for lambda control, open-loop injection strategies etc.
- Develop new-to-world control algorithms which add tangible value to engine power trains.
- An example of new-to-world algorithms is - sensor elimination- ie, performing engine controls with fewer sensors, by leveraging physics behind how engines operate.
- Develop proof-of-concept demonstration of methods / strategies / algorithms developed, on prototype ECUs (Electronic Control Units)
- Draft patents for newly developed intellectual property.
- Coordinate with other engineering functions (such as software & electronics) for driving new technologies to production.
- Lead a team of engineers working on engine-control related problem statements through technical mentorship, course-correction & training.
- Identify & bring about positive change in SEDEMAC's engineering processes & tools, towards improving engineering effectiveness

- Strong command over engineering physics and mathematics along with enthusiasm for potentially cross-domain ideas (mechanical, electrical etc.).
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to mentor and manage a cross-functional team.
- Professional attitude towards work.
- Sense of ownership and urgency when working in the company.
