RIL - eSystems Engineering Lead - Power Electronics (7-10 yrs)
Job Accountabilities (duties and responsibilities) :
- Design, development and application of 48V - 360V E-System technologies ensuring alignment with the product strategy
- Evaluating and implementing new systems and infrastructure
- Team structuring and manning to support the technology and product development strategy
- Design development and application of the E-System to ensure technical advantage :
a. Power electronics (DCDC - OBC)
b. PDU
c. Motor & controller
d. Transmission systems
e. Energy storage system (inc cells/modules BDU, BMS, LV/HV harness, sensors etc)
- Cell selection and application
- Thermal system specification and implementation
- Structures and enclosure design
- System DMU and integration
- Understanding all external interfaces and ensuring the functional architecture correctly captures the need
- Decomposition of the system requirements using an appropriate tool (stimulus, Doors, Polarion) so models can be developed
- Handle multiple projects and stakeholder interactions
- Design delivery in compliance with NPI automotive practices
- Pro-active - trouble shooting- to identify problems and prevent them
- Interface with cross-functional teams including Fuel cell, vehicle, software, electrical etc to ensure overall feature development, maturation and decision-making
- Creating Product Definition Document (Software system Technical Specification). Reviewing of the same with the cross functional team. (Electrical Mechanical, Software, Validation test, Manufacturing etc)
- Obtain customer approval of the software technical specification document
- Support certification
Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills) :
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage teams, communicate with senior management, sector controllers and other key stake holders.
- Problem and conflict resolution utilising both experience and process driven methods
- Analytical, and decision-making skills are vital to the position. Able to apply RCA and decision making tools such as 8D, ishikawa, pugh matrix
- A thorough yet pragmatic engineer who applies a sound understanding of the fundamentals of systems engineering to pro-actively ensure that the product is well specified & robustly designed from the start
- Ability to conduct technological analyses and research
- Working knowledge of the specification and design :
a. Cell selection
b. Module design and manufacturing requirements
c. Battery circuit and component layout
d. Enclosure materials and design for application
e. Motor type, configuration and materials used v cost
f. Transmission design/selection
g. Power electronics - including inverter UHV & HV
h. UHV power transfer systems - pantograph desirable
- Ability to document analysis, design and test cases
- Problem-solving aptitude and proven knowledge of methods
- DFMEA, 8D TOPS, 5 Ys, Ichikawa
- Design for Excellence and engineering design standards
- Able to work & communicate well within multi-disciplinary project teams,
- A self-starter, able to make evidence-based decisions, and display a strong "can-do" attitude to match the challenges with equal enthusiasm.
Key Attributes (Experience and Qualifications) :
Experience :
Necessary :
- Experience gained within an automotive OEM or premium tier 1
- Technical leadership of a X functional team to design, develop and deliver to production (48 - 360V+) automotive E-Systems
- Intimate working knowledge of EV regulations for India (desirable ECE/ISO/SAE/GB)
- UHV power transfer from grid to vehicle
- A clear understanding of the importance of systems engineering
- Use of V-Sim tools to establish system sizing
- Testing requirements and characterisation of cells as a basis for algorithm development to manage charge, health, power and life, and thermal system specification
- Use of model based Design and simulation tools for :
a. Thermal management
b. Multi Body Physics
c. CFD
d. Structural analysis static and fatigue
e. EMI/EMC
- System DMU and electro-mechanical integration
- Use of PLM/ALM
- Intimate experience in debugging E-Systems
- Management of prototype and pre-production build activities (A/B/C/D sample builds) and ensuring technical preparation and requirements are met
- Design, development and commercialisation in compliance with ISO16949
- Leading a team to implement an E-system to meet ISO26262 ASIL C/D
- Ability to handle multiple projects and stakeholder interactions
- Knowledge of automotive practices for project delivery and engineering excellence
- Hands-on experience in Requirement Analysis and use of requirements management tools
Desirable :
- Understanding of whole vehicle engineering and platform design
- 1st hand experience of electrical network/architecture and component design
- Development of DVP for system and product hardware and software verification
- Technical knowledge of fuel cell and hydrogen storage

- B.E/ B.Tech (Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics)
- 7+ Years of exp.
Desirable :
- MTech (Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics)
