Safety Officer (3-7 yrs)
Job Title : Safety Officer Main Purpose of Job
Level: Site Safety Officer is responsible to protect business sustainability and company image by managing all safety and occupational health issues, concerns and obligations.
Safety Officer must ensure an active, effective and credible safety management system, in full compliance with all internal and external requirements in factory.
The role has a cross functional responsibility of tasks together with other departments and Market SHE Officer to develop and drive initiatives leading to continuous improvement in safety performance.
Reports to: Factory Manager
Organisation Unit / Location Factory.
Main Responsibilities / Job Summary KPIs & Dimensions
1. Management responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a complete and effective occupational health and safety management system that complies with OSHR standards and best practice.
- Drive OSHR objective setting and advise managers on appropriate safety objectives and initiatives.
- Ensure all employees are trained and assessed as competent in their safety responsibilities, relevant legislation, site standards and systems to enable compliance.
- Co-ordinate all occupational health & safety activities across the site to ensure compliance with current and future legislation, and requirements
- Ensure all appointed persons are competent to undertake their duties and roles as defined by Nestl- or as required under current and future legislation.
- Actively interpret statistical data with Line Management to identify action to reduce the number of accidents and Employee Liability Claims.
2. Functional responsibilities
- Provide health and safety advice and guidance to all employees on day-to-day issues, on the improvement of management systems, and at the design and planning stages of projects.
- Undertake annual formal auditing and ongoing informal monitoring to continuously improve compliance to the site OSHR management system.
- Undertake audits of all operations and functions at appropriate time intervals to ensure the required level of demonstrable control with respect to Health & Safety management and control.
- To act as site Fire Manager and ensure that the factory operates to emergency procedures and complies with statutory requirements.
- Implement legislation or technical standards such as ISO and use of standards in order to take correct measures. This includes Fire prevention equipment, Fire fighting equipment, Display screen equipment, Electrical equipment, Noise, Chemicals and handling of big bags etc.
3. Emergency, contingency & recovery planning
- Ensure effective management of emergency and contingency / recovery planning for incidents. This includes Evacuation organisation, Internal Fire brigade, First Aiders and Hazardous materials.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Regular management review of quantifiable results (KPI's), standards, practices and priorities. Regular hazard assessments & safety inspections to identify potential hazards. Incident investigations & improvements to reduce the risk of repeat incidents. Management of change procedures to minimise new hazards caused by technical or operational changes. External audits of site safety standards and management practices.
- Ensure that safety team investigates all accidents by means of a root cause analysis system.
- Ensure systematic analysis of near misses and potential dangerous situations.
- Ensure a strong focus on work practices and the human element (behaviour based safety)
- OSHR self audit score of more than 85%
- LTFr as per agreed target for the year. Less than 2.5 per million man-hours exposed
- Appropriate safety training to employees

- Compliance t external audit points
- OHSAS 18001 market appointee- responsible for upkeep of the certification and subsequent recertification.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
Technical / Functional
- Knowledge of occupational health and industrial safety policy
- Knowledge of factory operations (manufacturing, filling, utilities etc.)
- Knowledge of local and regulatory safety standards / legislations
- A passion for safety and the desire to reduce pain and suffering to employees
- The ability to communicate to and influence people at all levels of the organization
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering (Mech. / Elec. / Safety / Chemical)
Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in industry
Training Requirements
- Lead auditors training for OHSAS 18001
