Job Description :

Basic Purpose and Objective :

- This position needs the capability to receive & design products necessary to fulfill customer (internal/external) requirements with some guidance. 

- They need the ability to evaluate a design to determine if it will function within our manufacturing processes, while adhering to the drafting & design standards set by the company.

- They will also need to execute FEA and Moldflow projects, evaluate the output, generate a report and provide suggested improvements. Familiarity with the basic principles of mechanical engineering theory and strong CAD and CAE skills are required.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities :

- Design automotive fasteners (plastic and metal) based concepts in customer environment and/or from instruction

- Create 2D drawings including GD&T

- Create design stack ups and design studies to verify good design conditions

- Complete 3D and 2D design changes

- Provide general assistance to product development team

- Maintain product and CAD records (files, etc.)

- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

- Perform complex design analysis using Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software.

- Understand customer basic requirements and expectations for new product design and improved designs.

- Develop alternative design solutions or quick engineering solutions for complex problems.

- Maintain records of all activities and results in CAE project database.

- Provide timely design guidance and support to team to meet customer requirements.

- Responsible for becoming intimately familiar with the makeup and function of metal and plastic fasteners

- Capture lessons learned for future usage and drive product improvement activities.

- Utilize predictive software for weight savings, cost reductions, and engineering improvements based on simulation results.

- Ensure that all work carried out is in compliance with company design, safety, quality, environmental compliance and procedural standards.

- Create cold form header tool designs with assistance from Manufacturing Engineering assistance

- Upload data into all customer environments/ data management systems such as Team center.

- FMEA moderator to lead FMEA meetings and apply all input from teams into Boehme + Weihs software.

Experience Required :

- Associates degree Engineering or equivalent gained through directly related experience

- 2+ years of 3D CAD design experience in UG NX and/or CATIA (CATIA preferred)

- 2+ years of related, on the job experience in detail mechanical design and development or applications development preferred.

- Must be familiar with basic principles of mechanical engineering theory

- Understanding of design for manufacturability and assembly feasibility required

- Design for plastic injection molded part preferred

- Design for stamping, sheet metal forming and cold forming in steel and aluminum preferred

- Automotive design and development cycle experience preferred

- Experience in PDM (PTC/WindChill) systems at user level preferred.

- 4+ years of FEA and/or moldflow experience/coursework preferred.

- Working knowledge of Altair suite of products, such as :

1) Hyperform, Hypermesh, Optistruct, Radioss

- Working knowledge of MoldEx 3D or equivalent

- Working knowledge of DEFORM or equivalent preferred

- Good technical writing skills.

- Good interpersonal skills.

- Good leadership skills.

- Strong computer skills

- Experience in automotive industry preferred.

- Experience with metal and plastic products preferred.

- Experience with fasteners preferred.
