Thermal Engineer - Job Description

Job Overview : 

We are seeking very Creative Thermal Engineers to join our Engineering Services/ Mechanical engineering team. You will be involved in design and develop the next generation of devices. You will get a chance to work on a variety of the latest technologies and deliver products for both residential and commercial spaces, including smart home and commercial environmental control applications. You will provide design solutions for many varying devices such as, Bluetooth Low Energy-based commercial lighting solutions, applications to control many of our AV systems, and wireless presentation applications. Our automation and control solutions for homes and buildings allow our clients to control entire environments with the push of a button, integrating systems such as Audio Visual, Lighting, Shades, Security, Building Management Systems and HVAC to provide greater comfort, convenience and security.

Job Responsibilities : 

In this role at Crestron India, Bangalore, you will be responsible for : 

Perform thermal design of electronic products:

- Provide thermal solutions for forced air cooled and natural convection cooled products.

- Use CAD software such as Creo including EMN/EMP file transfers to build assembly models for thermal simulations.

- Use CFD thermal software to obtain simulation results.

- Apply heat-transfer fundamentals to resolve thermal issues.

- Assist in thermal verification testing and resolve any issues resulting from simulation results and lab testing.

- Develop CAD/thermal library of components of commonly used parts such as connectors, thermal interface parts, fans, blowers, heat-sinks.

- Generate thermal simulation/validation reports to share with project teams and management.

- Develop creative engineering solutions to meet product requirements.

- Perform FEA analysis for stress and impact using FEA software such as ProMechanica.

- Provide mechanical design guidelines to meet Mechanical compliance to Global regulatory requirements in the areas of safety and EMC.

- Develop detailed product design for evaluation and Testing. Provide guidance and assist with design validations and Product tests.

- Generate engineering documentation, mechanical drawings, and Bill of Materials

- Implement Industry best practices in Thermal Designs.

- Provide mechanical design guidelines to meet Mechanical compliance to Global regulatory requirements in the areas of safety and EMC.

- Generate engineering documentation, mechanical drawings, and Bill of Materials

- In depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for Mechanical Compliance in the areas of safety and EMC:

- US/CSA: UL standards such as UL 60950, UL60065, UL 508, UL 508A

- International: IEC, RCM, KCC, PSE, CCC

- Other: FCC, Energy Star

- Research, implement and demonstrate proof-of-concept applications.

- Ongoing improvement to our current product lines

- Design for manufacturability

- Collaborate with Cross Functional teams of Product Management, Electrical, Firmware, and Production Engineering

- Mentoring, assisting team members in their tasks.

Technical Skills & Qualification : 

- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

- 5+ years of Relevant experience.

- Strong Analytical skills.

- 3D CAD experience (Creo preferred).

- Thermal CFD simulation experience.

- Excellent understanding of mechanical/thermal aspects of electronic devices, thermal interface materials, heat-sinks, heat-spreaders, PCBs.

- Proficiency in Design for Manufacturability.

- Working knowledge of design guidelines for EMC/ESD compliance at component, board and system level.

- In depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for Mechanical Compliance in the areas of safety and EMC:

- US/CSA: UL standards such as UL 60950, UL60065, UL 508, UL 508A

- International: IEC, RCM, KCC, PSE, CCC

- Other: FCC, Energy Star

- Good in Hand calculations

- Good in Basic Physics and fundamentals.

Soft Skills :

- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as you will be working with cross functional teams.

- Must possess strong problem-solving skills.

- Operate autonomously with minimum direction

- Must be a self-starter with the ability to master new technology concepts quickly.
